Sunny San Diego

I managed to get to sleep around 1:00 last night, and was up at 6:30 this morning for the drive to San Diego. (John likes to get an early start: when I drive, we start MUCH later in the day!) We left at 7:00 and made our usual breakfast stop at a McDonald's in Livermore. Feeding the kids has become a lot more expensive lately ($25 for breakfast!), as they are both growing very quickly.

We usually stop for lunch at the In-and-Out in Kettleman City, but we made such good time that it was way too early for lunch when we arrived. We walked the dogs and stretched our own legs, then got back in the car. As we approached the Grapevine, we saw a semi overturned on the other side of the freeway--the backed-up traffic extended for miles. The CHP traffic report said that the semi lost its brakes, coming down at 85+ mph before finally crashing and overturning.

Our lunch stop today was the In-and-Out in Newhall: John knew what exit to get off at, but didn't know the name of the city or even what county we were in, which made it a little challenging to find the directions on the In-and-Out brochure we keep in the glove compartment.

We arrived at John's parents' at 3:00, had a lovely dinner on the patio (roast pork, roasted potatoes, cheese bread, strawberry shortcake), and watched the DVD of Beth's school musical. John is now in bed, and I will follow soon, as we have to leave at 4:00 am to get him to the LA airport tomorrow morning.

  1. We are also fond of In-n-Out safaris when traveling up and down the coast.
